Curragh hero Van Beethoven takes July test at Newmarket

Tuesday, Jul 10 2018

Van Beethoven will try to make it a Group Two double in Thursday’s Arqana July Stakes at Newmarket.

Aidan O’Brien’s charge won the Railway Stakes at the Curragh last month after a string of good performances, including fourth place in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Scat Daddy colt will be joined by stablemate North Wind, who finished fifth in Railway and well down the field at Ascot.

John Gosden appears to hold the key to the race in impressive Newmarket debut winner Legends Of War, who missed Ascot due to a late setback.

Martyn Meade’s Advertise, who finished second in the Coventry Stakes, is another headline runner while Alan King’s Dunkerron has won his last two starts.

Charming Kid, Konchek and Sporting Chance, who will be having his first start on turf, round out the eight contenders.
