Glenbank King is likely to head back to Scotland following his surprise victory at Sligo on Wednesday evening.
Lee Smyth’s inmate made a mockery of his 25-1 starting price in an extended mile-and-a-half handicap when he claimed a neck success under Chris Hayes.
Glenbank King won a race at Ayr last season at twice those odds and is now poised to go back on his travels.
Smyth said: “He’s a 10-year-old that showed us plenty last year and won at Ayr at 50-1.
“He met firm ground on both his starts at Ayr this year and hasn’t disappointed but we know he wasn’t going on it and we suspected with easier ground he’d run a big race.
“We got the right man on board and got the job done.
“I told Chris to make the running because he’d stay two miles no problem.
“He’ll probably go back to Ayr as he seems to like it over there and the owner (Victor Robinson) has family there.”
